Saving Ashgate Nursery

Myself and the Labour Team were out listening to the furious reaction to the Conservative-led councils’ proposal to close Ashgate Nursery in Mackworth and New Zealand. Working with the local community and councilors, we produced a petition to save Ashgate Nursery from closure. We won and Ashgate was saved from closure due to our efforts.

Supporting the Royal College of Nurses

I was able to speak with nurses from the Royal College of Nursing who are striking in Derby alongside Baggy Shanker . Having clapped them, Conservative MPs voted to be able to sack them for striking. Nurses are striking because they want to see safe staffing levels and fair pay. They have my support.

Abseiling for Rainbows Children Hospice

I raised over £600 for Rainbows Children Hospice by abseiling down Derby Catherial

As the East Midlands only hospice for children and young people, Rainbows is a place where life-limited children and their families can find care and support. Their incredible team of people help relieve symptoms, improve quality of life, support parents and siblings through their bereavements and care for children until the end.

Community Union Keep Us Safe Campaign

Those who work in our prisons and immigration system deserve our gratitude, respect and to be safe at work. Assaults are up 247% since 2010. I was pleased to back Community Union’s Keep Us Safe campaign alongside Shadow Immigration Minister, Stephen Kinnock.

NHS Thank You Card

Most of us have reason to be grateful to the NHS. 2,000 signed our thank you card to NHS workers presented to Royal Derby Hospital staff earlier this year. The NHS has been a literal lifesaver for 75 years. We need a change of Government to make sure it’s fit for the next 75.

Christmas Card Campaign

I delivered Christmas Cards across Derby North with contact details of charities who were helping people who were struggling over the Christmas Period as part of the HelpOnYourDoorstep Campaign.

No one struggling to cope has to do it on their own.

Derbyshire Refugee Solidarity

I organised a ‘Warm Welcome’ Appeal with Derbyshire Refugee Solidarity (‘DRS’) collecting hats, gloves and scarves as well as funds for 1,000 presents for refugees in Derbyshire. DRS is based in St Anne’s Church, Whitecross St, Derby, DE1 3NE. If you want to get involved and support DRS please follow the link below

Delivering Easter Eggs

I spent an “eggcellent” afternoon helping the Easter Bunny deliver Easter Eggs from the Revive Centre Charity to people at St. Philip’s Church in Chaddesden and Aspire Community and Wrestling Alliance.

I was also really pleased to hear that children from Derbyshire Cricket Foundations programmes enjoyed the Easter eggs that Councillor Kathy Kozlowski and I delivered from Revive Centre Charity.
